John 18:5-8 (NLT)
“Who are you looking for ?” He asked, “Jesus the
Nazarene”, they replied.“I Am he,” Jesus said. (Judas, who betrayed him, was standing
with them.) As Jesus said “I Am
he,” they all drew back and fell to the ground! Once more he
asked them, “Who are you looking for?” And again they replied, “Jesus the
Nazarene.” “I told you that I Am
he,” Jesus said. “And since I am the one you want, let these others go.”
Who
has the authority? The well armed mob with the backing and power of the religious
establishment have all they need, it seems, and yet they draw back and fall to
the ground. Even with hatred in their hearts they recognise that Jesus is neither
afraid nor intimidated. In fact Jesus is in control and could have called a
legion of angels to his aid. Are we that close to God that even when we are
opposed and isolated, we have an inner assurance and rock like faith?
Father, thank you for Jesus
wonderful example, help us to enjoy the same intimacy Jesus had and has with you in our
own lives.
