Matt 10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out
demons. Give as freely as you have received!
I wonder how the disciples
felt when Jesus told them to go out on their own and raise the dead? You can
imagine the sarcastic reply if they had been British “Sure Jesus we will raise
the dead –any other impossible things you would like us to do? Jesus was not
asking his disciples to do anything he hadn’t already done. In the preceding
chapters Jesus raised a dead girl and drove out demons and healed many. We don’t
read of the disciples succeeding in raising the dead at this time but Jesus did
not set any limit on what the disciples could do. Perhaps Jesus had more faith
in what the disciples could do than they had themselves. Jesus certainly trusted
in his followers and gave them the space and permission to do great things. Not
only should we do the same as leaders but perhaps we should be more ambitious
in what we aim for.
Father,
help me not to doubt but rather believe and pray for great things!
