Philippians 1:25
(NLT) Knowing this, I am
convinced that I will remain alive so I can continue to help all of you grow
and experience the joy of your faith.
Paul
is facing the very real possibility that he may die. In such circumstances Paul
is deciding the things that are most important. Paul sees that God’s reason for
sparing his life is so he can help his fellow believers grow and experience joy
in their faith. We surely all have such a role. Paul has two burning desires,
to spread the Good News and to spur believers on in their faith. Despite persecution
from the Jews and Romans and opposition from false teachers Paul remains determined
and joyful. Despite the failure and serious sins of believers Paul will not give
up in his quest to build them up. Paul lays down his life in loyal service
doing everything he can possibly think of to promote growth including unceasingly
asking God to intervene in their lives. How does this compare with our
commitment to those we want to see grow?
Father forgive our
half-heartedness and laziness; put a new fire in our hearts to pray and take
practical steps to help another in their faith.
