Are 26-28 year old Christian men difficult
to work with?
Someone recently
suggested to me that 27 year old Christian men are difficult to work with. This
may be it was suggested because they are rarely given significant responsibility
at that age in church circles and yet in secular employment they may be taking
on significant new responsibilities. Men of this age may hold strong
convictions and be relatively stubborn and proud and yet keen to make a difference
and change the world. They may not have matured sufficiently to be able to work
well with others. Has anyone noticed this phenomenon? If it exists is it culturally
bound to the UK or found in other countries? Comments welcome!
Some churches seem to successfully engage men in their 20s, but many do not. In the corporate world a young man of 27 would be expected to hold his own, give his opinion (backed with hard facts) and work hard in a team. He may even be a junior manager, responsible for a few people.
ReplyDeleteMen are like pick-ups, they work better when there is a load on them.
A 27 year old who is difficult to work with probably hasn't had enough responsibility given to him.
If the 27 year-old can't handle a small amount of 'insignificant' responsibility in church work without having a cow then he's not worthy of any more and it's not biblical to grant him any.
ReplyDeleteIf he only finds significance in position and responsibility then he should stoop down and wash some feet.
It likely stems from growing up in a society that clearly signposts the positions/etc it perceives as important, which is probably why God says the things the world esteems He sees as worthless.
