Acts 1:9 After he said this, he was taken up before
their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking
intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in
white stood beside them. “Men of
Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same
Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way
you have seen him go into heaven.”
The adage “Too heavenly minded to be any earthly use”
needs to be balanced as we clearly are citizens of heaven and need to be see
things with an eternal perspective. The disciples were probably feeling quite
alone after Jesus left them. They receive words of comfort from the angels who
assured them that Jesus will return. We
too must do the work of witness until his return. Let us long and even hasten Jesus
return by accomplishing His purposes on earth. The disciples prayed together,
examined God’s word together and chose a replacement apostle for Judas as a
community of 120 disciples including Jesus mother and other women. We need to
work together not to maintain holy clubs for believers but mission communities
involved in finding and rescuing those who otherwise condemned.
May you help us
Lord to work together and be effective in your rescue mission
