Acts 2 Converts without Repentance, Believers without Baptism

Acts 2:36-38 (NIV)  “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”  When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The problem with our gospel presentations, our evangelism and our preaching is that we water down a difficult message. Peter told the crowd they were murderers, responsible for the death of God’s chosen one and that he was now exalted to the highest place in heaven. But, rather than putting people off Peter’s uncompromising message and call to repentance brought 3000 into the Kingdom. We accept converts without repentance, believers without baptism and disciples without dedication. It's time to look afresh at the uncompromising truth of God's word and respond to God's call to holy living.
Father, help us to get serious again about following Jesus.
