Joshua 1:3 I will give you every place where you set
your foot, as I promised Moses.
God promised
Abraham, Moses and Joshua that he would give them the ‘promised land’. Land
which is not only Israel today but also part of Syria, half of Iraq, most of Saudi
Arabia, the whole of Lebanon and the whole of Kuwait. Even the ‘great’ kingdoms
of David and Solomon never incorporated more than a tiny portion of this land.
Israel conspicuously failed to claim the land God had graciously offered to
them. Was there a serious lack of ambition? Was it laziness or direct
disobedience that they missed out so badly. Was it that they lost sight of what
God had given them? Surely there is a lesson for us today. Do we lack ambition
as far as achieving God’s purposes are concerned? Have we lost sight of the
bigger picture of God wanting to transform lives and communities through us.
Have we settled for cosy comfort rather than striving and struggling to achieve
everything God has put us on this earth for?
Father may we not hold back but be ambitious for your
kingdom and your purposes to be achieved.
