Luke
10:17-18 When the seventy-two disciples returned, they
joyfully reported to him, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your
name!” “Yes,” he told them, “I saw Satan fall from heaven
like lightning!
Oh the joy of new found authority and power. The 72 disciples who appear
to have been ordinary men much like the 12 and not religious leaders are
thrilled to be able to cast out demons. They may never previously have even
tried but now they know they can give orders in Jesus name. Church leaders
should note well that it is the ordinary Christian disciple who should be given
opportunities to exercise power. Jesus trusted these men unsupervised and with
little or no experience to represent Him. Why does it take years for some church
leaders to trust fellow believers to do things of minor importance where here
new believers are sent out on their own in faith. Young believers need the excitement
and challenge of being trusted to take on new responsibilities.
Father may we invest in new
believers in such a way as to show we trust them.
