Luke 10:10-12 (NIV) But
when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say, ‘Even the dust of your town we wipe from our
feet as a warning to you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come
near.’ I tell you, it will be more
bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.
“On your own head be it.” We live in a
culture where warnings are constantly issued concerning our health and safety.
But the most terrible, awful, and horrific thing that could ever happen –eternal
separation from our loving Father doesn’t normally get a mention, even in
church. There is of course no danger of us being sued by those who go to hell
saying you did not warn us, but we do bear responsibility.
Warning unbelievers of hell without being caricatured as some kind of ignorant,
intolerant or deluded fundamentalist is very difficult in the UK today, but
does that mean we say nothing? What is evident from the Bible is there is a limit to the extent to which we should persist in offering the
Good News to those who stubbornly reject it.
Father,
give us your wisdom as we seek to warn those who face your unremitting judgment.
