Luke 3:4-6 Something to Shout About

Luke 3:4-6  Isaiah had spoken of John when he said, “He is a voice shouting in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the LORD’s coming! Clear the road for him! The valleys will be filled, and the mountains and hills made level. The curves will be straightened, and the rough places made smooth. And then all people will see the salvation sent from God.’”
There is a sense in which all believers have the same calling as John the Baptist in that we should all play a role in preparing people to receive Jesus. God’s overarching purpose for humanity is that all people see His salvation. There are many blind people around us who don’t see this rescue plan. True believers are now on the margins of Western society, we may feel we are in the wilderness but we must not be deterred from our task. Few of us are prepared to literally shout for fear of offending people and turning them away from the truth but we certainly need to proclaim truth in such a way that people are clear that we think what we are saying is vitally important. The truth about Jesus is far more important that soft drinks or running shoes or chocolate and yet material things are what we get bombarded with. Time is short John the Baptist apparently accomplished his task relatively quickly, Jesus ministered for only three years and yet achieved so much. It is so easy to waste our time on stuff which isn’t important.
Father help us to be wise with the use of our time and take every opportunity to proclaim the truth about Jesus.
