Matthew 10:6 These Twelve Jesus Sent Out

Matt 10:6 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.
As 12 disciples are named apostles in Matthew 10 and the word apostle in the New Testament means ‘sent one’ then the disciples were all essentially missionaries, sent by Jesus to be and tell the Good News.  Here they are specifically told they are to go to the lost sheep of Israel. Clearly Jesus anticipates the apostles going to the other nations as is clear later in the chapter and throughout the Gospel. On this occasion the disciples are to focus their attention on fellow Jews. They were all Jews and needed to go to their own people. This is where we all need to start, with those of our own culture. We need to focus our efforts, pray for specific people we know and as Jesus says at the end of chapter 9, pray that God would send more workers i.e. those who will actively witness wherever they are.
Lord give me opportunities to witness in deed and word and help me make the most of them in Jesus name.
