Matt 5:4 Blessed are those who Mourn
Mourning is generally associated with
the pain and grief caused by the loss of a loved one. But mourning can also be recognition
of wrongdoing and its consequences. Mourning over our own sin is not exactly
encouraged in many contemporary churches today as it doesn’t fit in with a good
self image and a positive, upbeat attitude to life. However it is clearly
something God wants each of us to do. We are encouraged to examine ourselves,
confess our sins, admit our failures both to God and others. Deep repentance including
mourning over sin is a sign of the work of the Holy Spirit, if we pray for
revival we should start with mourning, if we sow in tears we may yet reap a harvest
of joy.
Lord
show me the depth of my sin that I might truly repent.
