Matt 5:6 Blessed are those who Hunger and Thirst for Justice…
Hunger and thirst are warning signs the body gives us of our
basic needs. If we ignore them for a long time things will go drastically
wrong. Being hungry for justice (or righteousness) is about sharing God’s
concerns, His agenda. It is about praying for His kingdom to come, His will to
be done. It is about praying the prayer Jesus taught his disciples from the
heart. Are we passionately concerned for those who are materially and
spiritually hungry. Jesus was concerned for the crowds who were harassed and
helpless, for those who were hurting and oppressed. There are millions living
in extreme poverty today, there are 100’s of millions living in darkness
without an opportunity to respond to what Jesus has done for them. Do we care?
Are we angry that so little is being done by us (churches) to address these
needs. So much of our time and resources are spent on ourselves rather than
contributing to real justice on this earth.
Father,
I pray you would give me a soft, compassionate heart that I won’t ignore the ‘warning
signs’ of injustice but desire for your purposes to be achieved above all else.
Amen
