1 Peter 1:13-16 Roll Up Your Sleeves and Put Your Mind in Gear

1 Peter 1:13-16 “So roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear, be totally ready to receive the gift that's coming when Jesus arrives. Don't lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn't know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God's life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness. God said, "I am holy; you be holy."

As we begin this New Year let us roll up our sleeves and put our mind in gear seeing change in our lives is often about a change of thinking. We need the mind of Christ, in other words a divine perspective. In the first place this means meditating on God’s word. Not so much studying (though that is helpful) but focusing on what God has to say to us personally and how we might respond. It is easy to wallow in past failures but let us instead allow God’s life and energy to shape us so that we really can be light to those around us.
