1 Peter 1:22 The Message
Now that you've cleaned up your lives by following the truth, love one another as if your lives depended on it.
The command to love other believers is repeated frequently in the New Testament (Jn 13:34-35, 15:13, 17, Rom 12:10, 1Cor 14:1, 2 Cor 2:4) and I have often skipped over the words not taking them seriously but to love as if my life depended on it made me think. Do I really care that much even for those closest to me? What kind of committment do I show to those I am trying to help grow as disciples? Do I even pray adequately for important people in my life?
Lord I pray you would help me to become less selfish and more loving!
