1 Peter 3:8 (NLT 1st ed.)
Finally, all of you should be of one mind, full of sympathy toward each other, loving one another with tender hearts and humble minds.
Loving others can be hard work. We need to guard ourselves against being hard-hearted and uncaring. One way to do this is to show sympathy through active listening, in other words making a real effort to understand not just the words but the whole person and especially their feelings. Although the two words humble and mind are rarely linked it is indeed important that we guard against using our minds to win arguments, or gain some personal advantage which may reinforce pride, instead of seeking to see the good in another and affirm it.
