Matthew 28:19 “Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I'll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age." (The Message).
What is making disciples all about? We are instructed to introduce people to Jesus (evangelism) to confirm them in their faith (baptism) and then called to help them follow Jesus (mentoring). Obedience to Jesus teaching is key, teaching the truth is important but life changing practice is often what is lacking. This is surely where sermons and teaching in large groups is inadequate in the discipleship process, we all need people to check how obedient we are being (accountability). How are we doing in the obedience stakes?
